My One Only Thrill
Amazing though it is, the story of how Melody Gardot overcame the effects of a near-fatal accident to become one of the vocal sensations of 2008 is not the most extraordinary thing about the 23-year-old Philadelphia singer-songwriter. It is simply that here is a voice in a million; one that touches the soul. PMelody's debut album `Worrisome Heart' introduced, in The Sunday Times' words: "a remarkable talent by any measure", with songs of quiet, wistful poetry in arrangements that "ooze after-hours sophistication". Yet the follow-up, for release in April 2009, marks a substantial leap forward. `My One And Only Thrill' is an intensely creative milestone, transcending genre distinctions of jazz and blues to offer a haunting personal musical statement that will appeal to all music-lovers. As with her acclaimed live shows she captures and holds her audience in the palm of her hand. PThese eleven songs, covering a wide range of emotions, are all her own except for an irresistible, Brazilian take on Somewhere Over The Rainbow. It would take a heart of stone to remain unmoved by the poignant title track My One And Only Thrill. And when the album is finished (as Irving Berlin wrote truly) the song is over, but the Melody lingers on . . .

A beautiful discovery (2010-07-19) : 5/5
I just stumbled upon this album while browsing cds on Amazon. I could tell just by listening to the little sound clips that this was going to be an amazing album. It is so calming. Her voice is beautiful and wraps you up in warmth. br /br /My friend heard just one song of hers (Worrisome Heart) off my ipod playlist and she went instantly crazy, immediately purchasing the album. br /br /Frankly, I don't even like jazz much, but I love this album.
Good music (2010-07-15) : 5/5
From what I've read, Melody Gardot knows a lot about life for someone so young, and it shows in the music. Deep, calming and classy. Glad I bought it.
Beautiful Music (2010-07-06) : 4/5
Great cd. I am a fan of the standards, and her voice is fabulous.
Smart, seductive, thoroughly enjoyable (2010-06-14) : 5/5
After being tired of all the repeat plays of Norah Jones and Diana Krall, I found this album to be similarly jazzy and cool, but a new, refreshing taste of a strong female voice. This album is creative and very sexy music. I love having it on during the weekend or in the evening. I look forward to her next album with much impatience!
