Classic Spoon ablum (2010-01-21) : 5/5
I love this album! So many classic Spoon songs on here - Fitted Shirt, Lines in the suit, Chicago, 10:20AM. I pretty much love every song on here.
Tasty teaspoon (2009-09-15) : 3/5
3 1/2br /br /The first side clearly has better tracks in what could have been some of the indie pop rocker's best work from an admirable onset, unfortunately culminating with the infectiously and intelligently catchy Fitted Shirt and rarely recovering memorable momentum.
Brit's Spoonish Career Highlight? Not quite but darn good! (2009-08-18) : 5/5
When Britt Daniel breaks up with a lady, watch out, good music is bound to be produced. It doesn't come off as Alanis Morissette break-up album angry but all the same lyrical material is there just a little more subtle on Spoon's offering, "Girls Can Tell." The Spoon, power Austin Trio that they are, really took off with the recording of "Girls Can Tell," in 2001. You can hear their signature sound coming together like a Beatles reunion with the better part of "The Cars" new wave thrown in. Oh, yeah, also invite Thin Lizzy to the party and have Britt trying to get over some post-relationship angst...and there you have it, a recipe for Spoon's "Girls Can Tell."br /br /Let's take a little tour of the songs, shall we?br /br /1. Everything Hits At Once. Brit poppifies his sound but still keeps that slightly ragged vocals.br /2. Believing is Art. A little darker here. "Believing Is Hard, believing is artbr /Things Everybody Should Know, The End Will Come Slow, And Love Breaks Your Heart." You're darn skippy when you say that Britt.br /3. Me and The Bean. To me, the album's high point. "Do You Remember When You Were Small, How Everybody Would Seem So Tall, I Am Your Shadow In The Dark, I Have Your Blood Inside My Heart." Words remind me of my bro Ben.br /5. The Fitted Shirt. A close-runner up to "Me and the Bean" with driving rhythm guitar. A memory of a father and better times no doubt.br /9. and 10. "Take the Fifth" and "This Book is a Movie". Spoon here sounds like an Elvis Costello tribute band and what's freakin' wrong with that my friends?br /br /Great band! After seeing them twice in concert, they moved up to my fourth on my "all time favorite bands list" I keep track of in my head. Doesn't everyone do this? Spoon in some devilish good music and listen up and act accordingly guys...'cuz "Girls Can Tell." --mmw
Great Album for the ears (2007-05-28) : 5/5
Love this album, plays well with vocals and instrumental sounds. These guys are very talented musicians. Not your everyday indie band. Spoon brings a added element to their music. Sounds better with each listening, which is the basic of being a keeper in your playlist.
Good album (2006-08-16) : 4/5
I got this album after hearing the newest album "Gimme Fiction". This album is pretty good, but the production of this album is very different from their lastest album. It has more of a raw indie feel as opposed to the slightly overproduced sound of "Gimme Fiction". Personal favorite tracks: Everything Hits At Once, The Fitted Shirt, and 1020 AM. Any Spoon fan should definately own this album.
