Product Description:
Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King
Produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance), emBig Whiskey/em has been hailed by emRolling Stone/em as the group’s "heaviest album yet, both musically and emotionally," which went on to note: "Throughout, Carter Beauford beats out elaborate, propulsive groves; bassist Stefan Lessard lays down Flea-style funk bass lines; violinist Boyd Tinsley plays cresting, intense runs; and Matthews mirrors Moore’s saxophone lines with scatlike singing." emBillboard/em, in a cover story on Dave Matthews Band, praised emBig Whiskey/em as "its best album yet… Highlights include the funk-rock rave-up 'Shake Me Like a Monkey,' the stirring ballad 'Lying in the Hands of God,' the swampy rocker 'Alligator Pie (Cockadile),' radio-friendly fare like 'Why I Am,' which features playful horns over a solid rock riff and a hooky chorus, and 'Funny the Way It Is,' which parlays a subtle intro into a soaring, syncopated anthem."

Surprisingly good (2010-08-28) : 5/5
I went with this CD after asking a girlfriend about it. I always enjoyed the old Dave Matthews but his latest has evolved into a wonderful surprise. I don't think anyone should be disappointed in the direction he has taken.
A perfect blend of crowd pleasing and experimenting (2010-08-11) : 5/5
Starting with the haunting "Grux" segueing to the hard charging "Shake Me Like a Monkey," The Dave Matthews Band definitely is in fine form on this recording. Moving easily from songs as catchy and melodic as "Why I Am" to the banjo picking intro and swamp sound of "Alligator Pie" this is Matthews' CD is a great combination of his accessible crowd pleasing early material and his later experimentation. Here Matthews has found the balance, remembering what I got him to this level, but still willing to grow and push the sound even further. There are far bigger Matthews' fans than me, but as a casual fan this is the first CD of his that really spoke to me musically in a way that surpasses the older material I am familiar with. It's just some wonderful music.
All was good (2010-08-11) : 5/5
Everything went as expected, got the cd in a timely manner and it was in good shape. Played just like like new.
A new favorite (2010-08-02) : 5/5
From an unimpressive first listen, this has grown into a new favorite. A very strong performance, with great musicianship, tremendous originality, and steroidal back beats.
Great feel (2010-06-04) : 5/5
I agree with other reviewers that this album has a great feel to it. The entire band is in to it, and they work together in a great dynamic that makes each song, well, dynamic. :)br /I will say that the Super Deluxe edition is worth it for the extra songs - they are some of the best on the album.
